Brief biography

Adalorra Allen1 was born Lena M. Tobrocke to William and Mary Tobrocke in Indiana in 1864. Her father was a miller. She married William H. Allen on May 31, 1884 in Hamilton County, Ohio. They had several children together; surviving children included Gracie A. Allen, Edna May Smith (née Allen), and William H. Allen, Jr.

After her marriage, Allen joined her mother-in-law’s troupe of glassworkers as a glass blower and designer until the troupe disbanded. She later settled in Hartford, Connecticut, with her family. After she was widowed she moved in with her daughter, Edna May. Allen died January 28, 1949, in Wethersfield, Connecticut, and is buried in Evergreens Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.
